I was told by my Uncle that he was a Petty Officer Third Class who worked in the engine room. I have a picture of him in the engine room 1n 1954. I am a grandson of F2C Bruce A. Wentworth, who served on the USS Cabildo in 1946.  He passed away in 1991.  I would like to have his name added to the crewmember list.   I have some pictures of him with some friends that I assume are from the Cabildo, and I would like to know who they are.  Can you help?

Webmaster note:

Bruce's name has been added to the crewmemebr list. Do any of you 1946 Crewmembers remember Bruce? Can you identify any of his friends in these pictures?

  Note/Comment: Hi there.
I have just noticed that the Cabildo site has just had its tenth birthday! I am proud to see that the website is still going strong and helping to rekindle old friendships and memories. My fond memories are not of the ship per se, but of the many hours spent sitting down with John White in his study with his brand new computer & AOL account and starting to put together the pages that became this site. The content quickly flowed in and since then it has obviously taken on a life of its own. I know that seeing it flourish brought John a lot of joy and pride in his final years. Congrats to all, and thanks again to Warren for looking after things so well.

Webmaster Note: Hamish was very instramental in helping John White create this website.

Hamish,
Nice to hear from you. I too have fond memories of John White, although we were never able to meet, we had a nice friendship via
e-mail and phone. Thanks for checking in.
Warren

Hi All,
My father suddenly died May 22, 2008
I do not know if my father ever registered with your site.
My father never got into enjoying the internet.
My father served on the Cabildo during the Korean war.
My father received the rank of petty officer 3rd class, Engineman.
In the last few years of his life he liked talking about his experiences on the Cabildo.
He always talked about wanting to go to the next reunion, but apparently never made it.
He talked of his friend Willie Zra..., from Oregon.
Thanks
Arnold Jimenez

I just added you to our membership role. I am not sure what happened but our Treasurer then, Jim Lyon, was ill and passed away about the time you sent your check. Thanks for following up we are glad you found us.

Note/Comment: I am Michael D. Flannigan. Served on the Cabildo from January 1966 until February 1968. Came aboard as an Fireman apprentice departed as EM2. Served under Chief Ridley most of the time. We had a Mustang for XO who was great. Lt. Reed was Engineering officer and an Ensign Peckham (?Pulver?) was E-Division officer. As I recall we called him "Juicy Boots" or some such based on his preferred footwear. He was a Berkley ROTC grad. I also recall him falling for the Sea Bat trick while underway as we enjoyed a double ship's holiday crossing the International Date line. That was maybe 1967. I really like the new format.

The picture page for the Vietnam years however, did not display Arlee Taylor photos when I last logged on. I have some old 35mm slides from that era which show some ops and general Cabildo scenes. If you would like I will try to figure out how to turn them into emailable .jpg format and send them to you.

Thanks for your efforts on behalf of all your shipmates. Please, send me the form and I will join the association. I may even spring for some goodies from the ship's store.

Regards,

Mike

webmaster note:
Membership form has been e-mailed and thank you for telling me about the bad picture links. Dreamweaver can find them on my PC so when I test I think they are correct. They are now fixed.

Note/Comment: Shipmate told me he had heard that the "Combat Action Ribbon" was awarded to the crew for service in Vietnam during the period of 1964 - 1974. Don't know if this is true, but was curious, if it was and if it was for a specific action etc. Further if it is true how one applies for this award. I have my metals form the Navy and my Army time on display and would like to include this one if it is appropriate and authorized.
My wife and I just retired, sold our home in Arizona and purchased a 37 foot 5th wheel and are hitting the road, for adventures across this wonderful country of ours. Are there any full timers out there on the road? Let me know and we might be able to visit along the way.
Contact me via jmparker86323@yahoo.com and let me know.
John.

Could you kindly send me if you have a spare shoulder patch (rocker) of USS Cabildo (LSD-16) for my collection, If it's not too much trouble for you. I'd be very much obliged if you consider my wish. Thank you very much
Yours truly

Note/Comment: I just read the recent additions to the "Over The Bar" section. Well done! Unfortunately many of our shipmates and their wives will continue to pass. Recognition of their support for the Cabildo association is wonderful. We have gotten to know many great people through the association that served, or were married to those who served, on the Cabildo at different times. We'll miss them all and many of us will join them sooner than later. Thanks' for a great job with the website Warren, we appreciate your hard work. Walt

Note/Comment: I do not know what has happened, but our web site has really changed for the worst. The way it was before was so much easier to add our comments. Now with this change, seems to be that you make it so hard to address our concerns, that from what I noticed, no one has even tried to add anything since September. Also, my information is correct and yet, I have not received a newsletter in a long time. Why the big change, when everything was fine without it. Lorenzo Renteria MM3

Webmaster note: The number of SPAM e-mails in the Cabildo guest Log form was exceeding 100 a day. It is no longer pratical for us to use a web page "form" for this purpose. I will continue maintain this log manually and I encourage your e-mails to the Webmaster for the input. See the instructions on the sign our guest book page. Warren
