The Eighteenth Reunion of the USS Cabildo (LSD-16) Crewmembers' Association

Memorial Service

Each year we pause to remember our fellow shipmates who are no longer with us. This year was a very painful milestone year for us in that our association chaplain, Charles Carroll, passed away July 9, 2103. Charlie, a Methodist Minister, had conducted our memorial service every year of our associations existence.

Also, 2013, was the first year that we did not have one World War II crewmember able to attend our reunion. Our first reunion, held in 1996 in Madisonville Kentucky, was in fact a reunion of the original WWII crew. As others who later served aboard the ship found John White's website and the association they were welcomed into the association. It's noteworthy that Charlie Carroll was in fact the only WWII crewmember able to join us in Norfolk last year.

Our new chaplain, Ken Bredehoeft, stepped up to fill Charlie Carroll's shoes and did an excellent job remembering our shipmates at our memorial service.
