Bill Griffith received the following letter from Bill Strubing's daughter: | ||||
Dear Bill, | ||||
I deeply regret to inform you and the association that one of your shipmates, my beloved father, Bill Strubing, passed away this spring on February 16, 2011. He was daignosed as having pneumonia, but really it was his lungs filling up with fluid. After a two day stay in the hospital, he fell at rehab and started to have chest pains. He was in hospice care when God called for him. He was 84 years old. He also had a military burial that made his family proud. He went fast, but that was the way he would've wanted to go. |

I know he will be in spirit with all of you when the reunion heads to New Orleans. It's a shame he had to miss this one. He loved going to them all. I thank you for having them. It was always something for him to look foreward to. It's amazing how he could remember his days on the ship from 1944 to 1946, yet he couldn't remember what he had for dinner the night before.
Bill's family whishes everyone a hello who met our father and to know he is looking down on all of you in New Orleans, wishing he was there. Sincerely, Martha Ann Scodius Mount Prospect, Illinois |
