Deb and Walt at our 2005 Reunion - Walt in his HMCS Uniform
|
||||
Dale Bittle called me Monday let me know Walt was not doing well and yesterday he passed away. We had hoped he would enjoy one more reunion this year and we too could enjoy his company. Sadly it's not to be. Walt was in my OI Division when I was on the Cabildo and the one Cabildo Association member I knew well while on the ship. Walt and Deb hosted our 2005 reunion in Washington DC. Walt's Obituary | ||||
Walter E. Fulps, 84, Independence, MO, faced life with determination,
humor, and a zest that took him on many adventures, but after
a valiant battle with cancer, he left this life surrounded by his family
on March 29, 2021. Walter was born on December 26, 1936, in Mexico City,
Mexico, to James Fulps and Guadalupe Sotura Fulps. He married Debra
Abney Fulps on September 17, 1983.
Walter, a Vietnam veteran, retired after 22 years of traveling the oceans
as a Navy Senior Chief, HMCS. During that time, he earned an MBA in
business at National University. Retirement led him to Venezuela, where he
started the Allied School of Health. Walter then served as the Radiology
Director at several hospitals and ended his career teaching radiology. He
also took a mission trip to Guatemala to help build an elementary school
and served as a translator. Much to his children’s dismay, he was an avid
Raiders fan, but loved to cheer for the Chiefs, too, unless they
played each other, which led to bets, bragging, and good-natured jibes. In addition to his wife, Debra, Walter is survived by five children, Edward (Karen) Fulps, Brenda (Stephen) Schafer, Victoria (Bill) Cromwell, Eva Marez, and Walt (Linda) Fulps; nine grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James& nbsp;Fulps; and one sister, Norma Cortez.
Visitation will be Friday, April 2, 10 – 11 a.m. followed by
Funeral Services at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W Main St, Blue Springs,
MO, 64015. Graveside service with full military honors
conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard will be Wednesday, April
7, 2021 at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas. Memorial
gifts may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St.
Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, Walter’s favorite charity. |
