Obituary for Marshall Kendrick
MARSHALL BRUCE KENDRICK Marshall Bruce Kendrick "The Hat Man" or "Tom Landry"
as he was affectionately called, passed away at the age of 77 at his home, on
March 22, 2024. Marshall was born December 14, 1946, in Winfield, KS, to
William Edward and Myrtle Marie (Porter) Kendrick. Marshall grew up in
Arkansas City. He graduated Arkansas City High School in 1964, he joined the
Navy at age 17. Where he was a boiler tender on the U.S.S. Cabildo LSD-16. He
was in Vietnam from 1964 - 1967. When he returned to the states he moved to
Salina, KS, where he was a Wonder Bread salesman. There he met his wife,
Linda, at the Tastee-Freez. "no, it was not love
at first sight". They married on August 9, 1969. They had lots of ups and
downs in their 54 years of marriage, but the last year after Marshall's
esophageal cancer diagnosis was the hardest by far. Marshall was a bread
salesman, sold cemetery property, drove an 18-wheeler, a car salesman, a
Captain of Newton Police Reserve, and a
transport driver. He belonged to the VFW, Knights of Columbus, and St. Mary's
parish, where he loved being a lector and extraordinary minister. Marshall
enjoyed watching his sons play football and playing his grandchildren. He
loved playing golf with his sons (he was terrible), but he always got a laugh
out of "I ain't believing it" after a bad shot! Last but not least is his
Dallas Cowboys. He stuck by them no matter what! And got plenty of guff from
his Chief friends (he even had a blue truck). Marshall is survived by his
wife, Linda Rose; their sons, Terry Steven and Eric Kendrick; grandchildren,
Tegan Rose, Eason Luke, and Addison Edith Kendrick; sister-in-law, Kathy
Hammerschmidt; and brother-in-law, David (Tammy) Hammerschmidt. He is preceded
in death by his parents, Alfred and Myrtle Barker; brother, Forrest Kendrick;
sister, Theo Cox; and brother-in-law, Larry Hammerschmidt. Funeral Mass will
be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Newton
with The Reverend Jorge Lopez
Celebrant. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be 6:00 p.m., Monday, April 1,
2024 at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel in Newton where the family will receive
friends from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the St. Mary
Catholic Church Window Restoration Fund or St.
Jude Children's Research Hospital
