Obituary for Elvin Eugene Rudasill

Elvin Eugene Rudasill, also known lovingly as “Rudy” or “Sonny” was born in Altoona, Pennsylvania on December 26, 1927 and passed away at the age of 95 on Wednesday March 15, 2023.

Proceeded in death by his mother Grace Melva Rudasill (Fletcher) and father Alvin Eugene Rudasill, brother Lester Rudasill, his sister Zane Comben (Rudasill) and husband Robert Comben.

Rudy grew up in Pennsylvania and joined the U.S. Navy at the end of World War II to support his nation. He saw many adventures throughout his naval career. Most of his career he was a Machinist Mate (MM) working below deck helping to make the naval ships move. He started his career on the USS Montank. He served on the USS Cabildo during the nuclear testing for Operation Greenhouse at Eniwetok. Later he was again on the USS Cabildo during the Korean War. He also served on the USS Iowa before serving on the USS Navarro during the Vietnam War. He ended his naval career after 30 years as a Master Chief in San Diego before moving to Jacksonville, FL.

In Jacksonville he worked for PA Browning at the Thunderbird and Best Western (Orange Park), and Jacksonville Golf and Country Club.

Rudy and Marcelle Michaud, Marcy, were introduced by a friend at the Sea Turtle in Atlantic Beach, FL and danced the night away. Rudy and Marcy were married June 25, 1982. They were best friends, and enjoyed traveling and sports together. They also cherished their pets, especially their love for cats.

He was a life long sports fan cheering for Penn State, Pittsburgh Steelers, Florida State Seminoles, and the Jaguars. He was also a fan of the Pittsburg Pirates and the LA Dodgers. For many years he enjoyed league bowling with his family and friends. He was an avid golfer and cherished his hole-on-one he made at the Jacksonville Golf and Country Club on July 25, 2012 on the 3rd hole. Most of all he enjoyed playing golf with his wife Marcy.

Rudy is survived by his wife, Marcelle Paula Rudasill, his stepsons: Matthew Alford (wife Ana; children Thais and Rodrigo), Kelly Alford, Ian Alford (wife Grace; children Lilly and Isabella), niece Sandy Courson (husband Paul; children Rebecca and Marshall), nephew James Gorsuch (wife Linda; children Patricia and James), niece RuthAnn Dukes (husband Emory; children Nichol and Kevin).

Service will be held on Monday, April 10, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 523 Pablo Ave., Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250. Interment to be held immediately after at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
