On July 26, 2013 I received an e-mail from Franz Brill. Franz had been trying to contact Leland Trosper for several years. Franz's daughter was able to locate his obituary. I am sorry to have to relate the loss of another of our WWII crew members. Leland Trosper passed away last November 26, 2012. His obituary is below.

Obituary for Leland Eugene TrosperAkron, Ohio - Leland Eugene Trosper, age 85, died on Monday, November 26, 2012 at Rockynol Retirement Community. He was born on February 17, 1927, a son of Hazel (Turner) Townsend and William Arthur Trosper. Moving to Akron in 2007 to be near his family, Lee was a long time resident of Kinsman, Ohio. He was a 1945 Graduate of Mecca High School and attended Youngstown University. Lee served in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Cabildo and the U.S.S. Ajax during World War II and on the U.S.S. Macon during the Korean War. On September 3, 1948 he married Gladys Elston. Having worked as a foreman for American Welding of Warren, Ohio for many years he then worked for General Motors for 15 years and retired on December 1, 1987. He was a member of the Kinsman United Methodist Church since 1948, a 'fifty Plus' member of the Mecca Grange No. 1594, and the National Campers & Hikers Association. He loved to travel and camp, do woodworking, and could fix just about anything. He loved his neighbors and friends and was quick to assist you if you needed a hand. At the age of 16 he became a private pilot and enjoyed flying for many years, which rubbed off onto several family members. Above all Lee loved his family and spending time with them as well as his friends.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Gladys E. Trosper of Akron, Ohio; two daughters, Tonnie Lee and husband Dana Spratt of Burlington, Massachusetts, and Barbara T. Wright and husband Merlen Levering of Akron, Ohio; a son, Greig A. and Sally Trosper of Holland, Michigan; seven grandchildren, Kelly, Meghan, Tonnie, Rebecca, Trevor, Ryan, and Shane; three great grandchildren, Tyler, Ashley and Caitlin, with another one on the way.
